VLC media player 0.8.6 released

VLC media player

VLC Media Player, a popular media player besides QuickTime Player for Mac OS X, has released version 0.8.6 for Mac OS X and Windows.

Version 0.8.6 fixes a number of bug in 0.8.5 which was released in May this year as well as some new video format (codec) support. The most noticeable ones are the support for Windows Media Video (WMV) 9 and VC-1, VP5/VP6 - Flash Video, and support for Apple Remote control.

We tested one video encoded in WMV8 and one in VC-1, we noticed in both cases, the playback of WMV8 and VC-1 encoded videos were not as smooth as playing by QuickTime Player (with Flip4Mac's WMV Component installed).

VLC Media Player 0.8.6 can be downloaded from VideoLAN. VLC Media Player 0.8.6 is an open source product.

VLC Media Player requires Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later.
