iPhone 2.2 Software Update

After the release of iTunes 8.0.2, Apple also released iPhone Software 2.2 to iPhone and iPod touch users today.

Apple mentioned following enhancements in iPhone 2.2 Software Update for iPhone and iPod touch:

  • Enhancements to Maps (iPhone only)
    - Google Street View
    - ppublic transit and walking directions
    - display address of dropped pins
    - share location via email
  • Enhancements of Mail
    - resolved isolated issues with scheduled fetching of email
    - improved formatting of wide HTML email
  • Fixed issues where some users could not connect to secure SPA Wi-Fi networks.
  • Improved stability and performance of Safari.
  • Podcasts are now available for download in iTunes application (over Wi-Fi and cellular network). (iPhone only)
  • Podcasts are now available for download in iTunes application. (iPod touch only)
  • Decrease in call set-up failures and call drops. (iPhone only)
  • Improved sound quality of visual voicemail messages. (iPhone only)
  • Pressing the Home button from any Home screen takes you to the first Home screen.
  • Fixed bugs causing hangs and crashes for users with lots of third party applications.
  • Preference to turn on/off auto-correction in Keyboard Settings.

iPhone 2.2 software update requires iTunes 8.0.2.

iPod touch software 2.2 (officially “iPhone Software 2.2 for iPod touch”) is free for iPod touch users with Software 2.0 or later, or $9.95 for original iPod touch users (with Software 1.x).

The new Google Street View from iPhone's Maps app. It is the location of Apple Store Sydney. Obviously, the Street View photo was taken before the Store was opened in June this year.

iPhone Software 2.2 is free for original iPhone and iPhone 3G users, it is available from iTunes Store.

iPhone Software 2.1 was released in early September. iPhone Software 2.0.2 for iPhone and iPod touch was released on 18 August, iPhone Software 2.0.1 for iPhone and iPod touch was released on 4 August, and was included in iPhone 3G, and free upgrade for (first generation) iPhone owners. A $9.95 for iPod touch users who purchased iPod touch before 11th July 2008. iPhone 2.0 Software Update gives iPod touch owners the access to the App Store.
