Among yesterday's new Mac Pro, iMac, and Mac mini release, Apple also updated AirPort Extreme Base Station and Time Capsule Base Station. The new features of AirPort Extreme and Time Capsule are the simultaneous dual-band and guest networking.

Dual bandSimultaneous dual-band Wi-Fi provides maximum range and compatibility, AirPort Extreme and Time Capsule work simultaneously on both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, allowing all the devices on the network to use the most efficient band automatically. The latest 802.11n wireless technology so users can enjoy up to five times the performance and up to twice the range of 802.11g wireless networks.

Guest networkingThe new guest networking allows users to set up a separate Wi-Fi network with a separate password for visitors. Simply enable the new guest networking feature, and the guests can use the Internet but can’t access other parts of your private network, such as your computers, printers, and attached hard drives.

Previous model of AirPort Extreme Base Station and Time Capsule do have dual-band support, however, not simultaneously at this stage. It is possible to create dual-band Wi-Fi networks with multiple AirPort Extreme and Time Capsule base stations. It is rumoured that Apple may release firmware update to allow owners of previous models to have such feature.

AirPort Extreme is priced at US$179. Time Capsule Base Station is priced at US$299 and US$499 for 1 TB model.
